Could anyone have predicted that defunding the police in a high-crime area would bring about unpleasant results? I’m pretty sure everyone on the right understood this. The left is slow to come to grips with reality, though. So much so, that I don’t think they’ve actually realized the extent of the damage just yet. Some wealthy neighborhoods in Minneapolis aren’t waiting to see just how bad it can get, though.
In a report from the Minnesota Post , wealthier neighborhoods have formed nonprofits and started crowdfunding campaigns to pay for additional police patrols in their areas. These neighborhoods are taking advantage of a program known as “buyback,” which pays for officers to work shifts they otherwise wouldn’t be working due to budgetary constraints. “Officers working a buyback shift patrol in MPD vehicles, respond to 911 calls, and deter criminals–just as they do in a normal shift.”
