A recent European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) survey suggests that a significant majority of people worldwide view Donald Trump’s presidency as positive for global peace, despite varied opinions in Europe.

The survey, which included responses from 28,549 individuals across 24 countries, highlighted a contrast between the perceptions of Trump in Europe and the rest of the world. While many Europeans express skepticism about Trump’s return, countries like India, Saudi Arabia, China, Brazil, Turkey, South Africa, and Russia show a more positive outlook, considering Trump’s presidency to be advantageous for both their national interests and global peace.

ECFR Director Mark Leonard commented on the findings, stating, “The vast majority of people around the world think Trump is, in fact, good for the U.S., good for the world, and good for global peace.” He pointed out that outside of Europe, there is a belief that Trump could end ongoing conflicts like those in Ukraine and the Middle East.

However, the poll also revealed that many Europeans are apprehensive about “Trump 2.0,” with fears centered around his foreign policy unpredictability. In contrast, countries like India show overwhelming support, with 84% of respondents believing Trump’s return would be good for both America and world peace.

Interestingly, the survey also noted that while there is optimism about Trump’s peace-making capabilities, there’s a simultaneous expectation that China might overtake the U.S. as the leading global superpower during his term.

The findings indicate a complex geopolitical landscape where Trump’s return to the presidency is seen through very different lenses across the globe. While Europe might feel isolated in its skepticism, the broader international community appears more welcoming of Trump’s approach to international relations and conflict resolution.

This poll underscores a significant divergence in global public opinion, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for Trump’s administration in navigating international diplomacy.

According to Human Events:

A poll conducted by the European Council on Foreign Relations revealed that a majority of people across the globe think United States President-elect Donald Trump, set to take office next week, will be good for world peace.

The poll, conducted just after the 2024 November elections, surveyed 28,549 people across 24 countries around the globe, with its focus being Europe. It found that while Europeans tended to be more anxious about the Trump presidency, people globally are “upbeat” about it, as they find him capable of bringing peace in Ukraine and the Middle East, and easing tensions between the US and China. This tracks, as just after the poll was published on Wednesday, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire deal that would see all hostages still held captive by the Palestinian terror group released. The President-elect had made prior remarks that “all hell would break loose” if the hostages were not released by January 20th.

Over in Ukraine, people are “slightly more positive than not about the impact Trump might have on ending the conflict with Russia” but are skeptical of what a settlement deal may look like.
