Republican Governor Greg Abbott has banned the Chinese Communist Party-linked app TikTik from all devices used by Texas state officials.
Abbott issued a statewide security plan that bans the use of TikTok and other “prohibited technologies” on state devices.
It also prohibits any state contractors from conducting state business using any device that has TikTok, even if the device is personal, the governor’s office announced .
The governor first released a plan to take aggressive action against the Chinese company in December 2022.Through January 2023, a series of Texas universities started to restrict access to the video-sharing application on their networks.Now the state has released a detailed plan to implement the app’s restriction.“The security risks associated with the use of TikTok on devices used to conduct the important business of our state must not be underestimated or ignored,” Gov.
